A native of Newark, Grace Lange was crowned Miss Delaware Teen USA on 27 November 2016 and represented Delaware at the Miss Teen USA 2017 pageant in Phoenix, Arizona. Miss Delaware Teen USA 2017 Grace Lange, 17, from Newark, Delaware, is a senior at Caravel Academy. She is Senior Class President, captain of the varsity girl’s basketball team, a member of Sportsmanship Committee, a member of Prom Committee, and a member of Blue Gold Club. Her education is very important to her; she has taken over ten Honors and Advanced Placement courses. Despite her rigorous schedule, she maintains the highest honor roll: Headmaster’s List, and was named the first ever Student of the Marking Period.
A self-described “jock,” Grace has played basketball since she was six years old. Basketball is a major part of Grace’s and her family’s lives. Her mother, grandfather, aunts, and cousins have all played Division I collegiate basketball; a tradition she plans to continue. An avid sports fan, she enjoys cheering on the Villanova Wildcats, the Philadelphia Phillies, the Philadelphia Flyers, the University of Delaware Blue Hens, and all Caravel Academy Buccaneers. Grace plans to use her love of athletics to achieve her dream job: a sports reporter.
Through her class office and athletics, Grace has given back to the community in many ways. She has participated and ran many of her school’s fundraisers including toy donations for needy children during the holidays and packing food bags for the homeless during the cold season. Her favorite volunteer work is running her school’s lower school basketball clinic where she coaches and referees boys and girls in grades first through fourth.
After Grace graduates her next step is Villanova University, where she intends to study Mass Communication. She would like to become a television sports commentator one day, following the footsteps of her role model: Fox Sports’ Erin Andrews.
