A native of Apex, Kelsey Barberio was crowned Miss North Carolina Teen USA on 10 November 2012 and represented North Carolina at the Miss Teen USA 2013 pageant at Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas. After being diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of 12 and undergoing spinal fusion surgery, Kelsey became involved with supporting and raising awareness for the condition through an organization called BackTalk. She went on to graduate with a degree in broadcast journalism from the University of South Carolina.
Miss North Carolina Teen USA 2013 Kelsey Barberio is a senior at Middle Creek High School in Apex, North Carolina. She is very involved with her school and enjoys acting as the student body president and participating as president of the SkillsUSA MCHS chapter. She also enjoys being her school’s sideline reporter for The Sports Block and even has a school-broadcasted cooking show called Cooking with Kelsey.

During her reign as Miss NC Teen USA 2013, Kelsey plans to spend time working with and supporting children’s charities such as the Ronald McDonald House, Reach Out and Read, Make a Wish, and Special Olympics.
Kelsey plans to study communications and broadcast journalism after high school graduation, and hopes to pursue a career as a news anchor or television host. When she is not involved in school related activities, she enjoys website design, spending time with friends, traveling, modeling, and reading lots of books.
