A native of Cumberland, Miss Maryland Teen USA 2018 Caleigh Shade represented Maryland at the Miss Teen USA 2018 pageant in Shreveport, Louisiana. To help students learn a love for politics, Caleigh created the We the People: Our Voice, Our Vote program. We the People integrates voting education into elementary classrooms with fun voting activities. Caleigh also uses her program in high schools to help seniors register to vote.
Miss Maryland Teen USA 2018 Caleigh Shade is a freshman at Salisbury University where she is pursuing a double major in Communications and Political Science. This eighteen year old is a resident of Cumberland, Maryland. A graduate of Allegany High School, Caleigh was a five letter varsity athlete and a regional swimming champion in the breast stroke. During her senior year, she was honored to serve the Maryland House of Delegates as the 2017 Allegany County Page.
Upon completion of her undergraduate degrees, Caleigh plans to continue her education with a public policy masters degree or to attend law school. Once she has successfully completed her education, she hopes to become a newscaster and to serve her community as a Maryland State Senator. As a self proclaimed history nerd, her love of politics and public service began at an early age. Caleigh has volunteered on multiple local campaigns, and as at only seventeen years old, she was responsible for spearheading a county division of a state representative campaign.
During her high school government class, she realized most students have no civic education at a young age and as a result many young adults are not interested in the process. To help students learn a love for politics, Caleigh created the We the People: Our Voice, Our Vote program. We the People integrates voting education into elementary classrooms with fun voting activities. Caleigh also uses her program in high schools to help seniors register to vote.
In addition to her time spent volunteering with We the People, Caleigh enjoys working with the Special Olympics as a coach and volunteer and also acts as an advocate for her local animal shelter. Caleigh loves working as a model for Click Philly and, in her spare time, enjoys visiting museums, taking ghost tours, reading, and spending time with her friends and family.
Caleigh was competing in her first Miss Teen USA state pageant but has past experience at Miss Maryland’s Outstanding Teen and was a preliminary swimsuit winner at Miss Maryland 2017!
