Twenty-one-year-old Katie Wadman is the first Asian Pacific Islander-Filipino to be crowned Miss Iowa USA. She studies psychology, journalism, and mass communications at the University of Iowa where she is a news reporter and anchor on the television show The Daily Iowan. Her reports include information geared to help university students protect themselves during the pandemic. She also continues to elevate awareness of women’s accomplishments in sports by highlighting female athletes and coaches. She plans to pursue a master’s degree in journalism. Her ultimate goal is to cover the most significant events affecting the United States, providing accurate information to all Americans.
As a member of the NCAA Division I nationally ranked University of Iowa Dance Team, Katie has won multiple national awards. She uses this experience to help young women achieve their academic and athletic goals through mentoring and coaching young dancers across the state of Iowa. Katie also serves as a key public relations representative for the University of Iowa, contributing to multiple promotional events and charity campaigns including the world-famous University of Iowa “wave” to the Stead Family Children’s Hospital pediatric patients who are unable to attend the games. Katie fuels her passion for advocacy on issues affecting women and children through working with victims of domestic violence and human trafficking |
