Mariela was Miss Maryland Teen USA 2014 - you can check out her Teen profile here - and is only the fifth woman to hold both titles (click for a history of MD Teen USA titleholders competing at MD USA). She is the first since Kasey Staniszewski in 2013, and she and Kasey are the only Teen crossovers to win since 1995! Mariela is only the third former Teen to win this year and the first from 2014. She placed second runner-up in last year's pageant.
Amalia is 17 and from Bethesda - the first Teen from Bethesda since 1984! She was competing for the first time.

The entire Miss top five were all experienced contestants, including three previous Teen runners-up and a former Miss America's Outstanding Teen contestant! 3/5 were runners-up in Teen state pageants in 2015, all in different states. In addition to Mariela the rest of the finalists were first runner-up Amber Smith, a semi-finalist at Miss MD Teen USA 2015 & 2014; second runner-up Margot Huffman, second runner-up at Miss MD Teen USA 2015; third runner-up Kennedy Taylor, Miss Maryland's Outstanding Teen 2012 and third runner-up at Miss DC Teen USA 2015; and fourth runner-up Christiana DiNardo, a two-time runner-up at Miss New York Teen USA.
Among the top 15 were past runner-up Antonia Gore, 2017 semi-finalist Jordyn Cristaudo, and 2017 Pennsylvania Teen semi-finalist Sarah Pennington. Piper Lewis and Billie Castro were past non-finalists and Lorreen Agandi, Preslie Bennett, Ayuana Bryant, Emma Lutton and Shea Sullivan were all competing for the first time.

Second runner-up Ava Barnd and third runner-up Jaclyn Davis switched spots from last year when Ava was 3RU and Jaclyn was 2RU (mea culpa - in my contestant commentary I unfortunately overlooked that Ava was a past runner-up). Fourth runner-up was another newcomer Briauna Shriner.
The top 16 included last year's first runner-up Megan Goins, 2018 semi-finalists Isabella Capuao and Savannah Rumsey and newcomers Lynn Clough, Catalina Escalante, Emma Foraci, McKenna Hunt, Karson Marcellino, Adriana Ortiz, Julia Sheridan and Danielle Shook.
