Miss Pennsylvania USA & Miss PA Teen USA 2019 contestant commentary

Update: Congratulations to Miss Pennsylvania USA 2019 Kailyn Perez and Miss Pennsylvania Teen USA 2019 Julia Meckley!

Finals for the Miss Pennsylvania USA & Teen USA pageants will be held tomorrow (Sunday) at 4pm. The show will be webcast at http://www.pageantvision.com. Unfortunately I will be unable to watch the webcast and post live updates as I am working but I will do the best I can to bring you results when I can.

There are 39Miss contestants this year, slightly higher than last year and similar to 2016 but well down on 2017's 60! Teen numbers - 29 - are also similar to recent years. It's hard to believe there were only 11 contestants in 2016.

The 2019 winners will succeed 2018 titleholders Olivia Suchko of Belle Vernon and Kailey Grill of Mars.

Miss Pennsylvania Teen USA 2011 Madison Longstreth who was first runner-up last year and third runner-up in 2017 is returning, and will be hunting for her own crowning moment - she was first runner-up in the 2011 Teen pageant and was named Miss PA Teen USA the following day after the winner resigned. Madison went on to make the top 15 at Miss Teen USA! Second runner-up Tristan Kresek is also returning, as are 2017 & 2018 fourth runner-up Natalie Romano and 2016 fourth runner-up Jodelis Diaz. Robin Stoner has been a semi-finalist the last couple of years and was a Teen runner-up in 2006 and Julia Pauline is a five-time semi-finalist who was second runner-up at Miss PA Teen USA 2010.

Four-time Florida finalist Kailyn Perez has moved to Pennsylvania and may be hoping some of the luck of LauRen Merola - another perennial FL contestant who won Miss PA USA on her first try and placed fourth runner-up at Miss USA 2008 - rubs off on her. 2015 Georgia Teen USA runner-up Jordan Meachum is also competing in Pennsylvania for the first time.

Other returning semi-finalists are Monet Tiberii, Chantelle Heggenstaller, Alissa Alexander, Julia Chiango and Kirstin Pollock (in NY).

Miss South Carolina USA & Miss SC Teen USA contestant commentary

Update: Congratulations to Miss South Carolina USA 2019 MaKenzie Divina and Miss South Carolina Teen USA 2019 Allie Richardson!

Miss South Carolina USA & Teen USA is being held a little later this year, I can't remember a time when it was held in December! Prelims are tonight (Friday) and the crowning is on Saturday; both shows can be watched at http://www.pageantslive.com.

Tori Sizemore & Kirby Elizabeth Self have been one of my favourite duos and I had them pegged to both place highly at Miss USA and Miss Teen USA - well both of them have now been 1RU at Miss Teen USA but I was absolutely shocked that Tori didn't place at Miss USA this year!

The 2019 winners will succeed 2018 titleholders Tori Sizemore of Anderson and Kirby Elizabeth Self of Greenwood.

The only returning runner-up from South Carolina's 2018 top five is second runner-up Bailey Anderson who was also 2RU in Georgia in 2017. Caitlin Russell, who made the top 10 last year and was second runner-up in both 2016 & 2017 is also competing again this year. 2018 North Carolina fourth runner-up & first runner-up in 2017 Victoria Vesce has moved to SC this year, she has also been a Teen runner-up.

Somewhat unusually for SC there are only three returning Teen runners-up in the mix for Miss SC USA this year - a lot for many states but for some reason SC always has more than most! They are 2016 first runner-up MaKenzie Divina, 2015 fourth runner-up Mary Caroline Owen and 2014 first runner-up Blythe Neal. Kincer Crutchfield, third runner-up at Miss Virginia Teen USA 2014 and a semi-finalist at Miss Tennessee Teen USA 2015, is competing in SC for the first time this year (& her first Miss pageant).

Sydney Sill, who assumed the Miss SC Teen 2012 title after Rachel Wyatt won Miss America's Outstanding Teen that year is competing at Miss SC USA for the first time, however she was top 10 at Miss SC Teen USA 2014. She was second runner-up at Miss South Carolina (MAO) this year and 1st runner-up in 2017. The third member of the top three in that 2012 Miss SC Teen pageant? None other than Tori Sizemore!

Liza Walker (T10 Miss SC USA 16) and Megan Leonardi (T15 Miss SC Teen USA 12) are the only returning semi-finalists. A number of previous non-finalists are competing again this year as well.

Miss Virginia USA and Miss Virginia Teen USA 2019 results recap

Congratulations to Miss Virginia USA 2019 Courtney Smits and Miss Virginia Teen USA 2019 Morgan Duty! Click their names to view their titleholder profiles which have more photos.

Courtney was Miss Georgia Teen USA 2012 and a semi-finalist at Miss Teen USA 2012. She will be the seventh Georgia Teen titleholder to compete at Miss USA and the second to represent a different state. She is the ninth former Teen to win Virginia since 2000 and again, the second who represented a different state for Teen - the other was Catherine Muldoon in 2012 who was Miss NY Teen USA 2004 but had also competed in Georgia for Teen.

Morgan was second runner-up at Miss VA Teen USA last year and first runner-up in 2017. According to the records I currently have, she is the first titleholder from Lebanon in the southwest of the state.

First runner-up in the Miss pageant was Nadgeena Jerome who was competing for the first time. Second runner-up went to another former Teen, Miss Virginia Teen USA 2011 Susie Evans who was competing in her first Miss pageant. Susie had planned to compete a few years ago and then received the amazing opportunity to be a performer at Tokyo Disney! Third runner-up was Jade Kenny, who was Miss Maryland 2014 (& a semi-finalist in DC USA last year), and 2016 Teen 2RU Mary McGeorge placed fourth runner-up.

The semi-finalists included two-time Teen runner-up Davina Seoparsan, past semi-finalists Ashley Day, Alexis Drury, Johanna King (in DC), Victoria Maiden and Elizabeth Martin and 2018 non-finalist Brianna Ruff. The newcomers in the top 15 were Jasmyn Franklin, Amber Miller and Anah Taylor. Elizabeth took advantage of the new rule that allows a contestant to compete in multiple states in the same state pageant season, as she had competed in Texas a few months ago... and Johanna is competing again in DC in a few weeks.

Miss Congeniality was Kati Roberts and Jade Kenny won Miss Photogenic.

I believe this is the first time since at least 2000 that Virginia has had two former Teens and a former Miss America contestant in their top five (or any combination of three former titleholders), although in 2006 there were two former Teens competing and Caressa Cameron later went on to win not just Miss Virginia but Miss America as well! If you check out the link to the state pageant results page below though, you'll see a number of recent Virginia top fives featured contestants who later went on to win USA titles in VA in other states - e.g. four of the 2015 top five of Laura Puleo (Miss VA USA 15), Desiree Williams (Miss VA USA 16), Jamie Hughes (Miss CT USA 18), Brittinay Nicolette (Miss MD USA 18) and Kristie Barlow all competed at Miss USA

2018 third runner-up Cameron Clark finished first runner-up this year, second and third runner-up spots went to newcomers Zoe Lowe and Alyssa Mawyer. Fourth runner-up was Gabriella Pena who is the second Teen to use the rule change I mentioned previously and compete in a second state. She made the top 15 in North Carolina in October (after placing 3RU in NC in 2018).

The only returning contestants in the top 12 were Savannah Marcum (SF in Virginia last year) and Grace Anne Jeremiah (SF in California - the second 2018 Cali Teen semi-finalist to compete in a different state this year). The other semi-finalists were MollyPaige Deans, Jahnai Elder, Blair Oakley, Elana Scarlett and Sydney Spencer.

Madison Ramsey won Miss Congeniality and Cameron Clark was Miss Photogenic.

Catherine was Miss Minnesota Teen USA 2014 - click the link for her Teen profile - and won both titles on her first attempt. She is the second 2014 Teen heading to Miss USA this year. She is the first Miss titleholder from Bloomington since 1988. As happens quite frequently, Catherine's "Miss" titleholder Haley O'Brien was herself a former Teen (MN Teen USA 2010) who went on to win the Miss title.

Olivia was a semi-finalist in last year's Teen pageant, the first time a returning semi-finalist (not runner-up) has returned & won the following year since 2006! She is a cousin of Miss Minnesota USA 2011 Britt Thelemann Pangerl. She is the first titleholder from Andover, north of Minneapolis.

I didn't get a chance to do any contestant commentary for this weekends' pageants but all four of last year's runners-up competed again this year which has been a fairly rare occurrence this state pageant season. 2018 fourth runner-up Zianya Steigauf placed first runner-up this year. Two-time Teen semi-finalist Taylor Fondie finished second runner-up. Third runner-up KerryAnne Kelly was the only newcomer in the top five and also won Miss Photogenic. Fourth runner-up was Melissa Paakh, last year's 1st runner-up (she & Zianya swapped spots!).

Among the semi-finalists were the other two 2018 runners-up Danielle Hron (2RU) and Catalina Nguyen (3RU), 2018 semi-finalist and 2017 Teen runner-up Kala Schmidt, other past Miss & Teen semi-finalists Maddy Karlen and Elle Gilbert and first-time contestants Allie Brunette, Lauryn Greenfield, Jenna Housley, Courtney Igbo and Samantha Smith.

Miss Congeniality was Mikayla Holmgren.

In Teen, the top three contestants were all returning semi-finalists. First runner-up was Gwendolyn Buchanan (SF in 2016) and second runner-up was Sylvia Leonard (SF in 2018). Third and fourth runner-up placements went to newcomers Lillie Imm and Lauren Disher respectively.

Two more past semi-finalists Hallie Jackson (2017) and Grace Myler (2018) made the top 15 again this year. The other semi-finalists were Devon Brant, Madison Callais, Madeleine Danzberger (Miss Photogenic), Yajaira L, Madison Mikan, Samantha Nash, Regan Schmidt and Hannah Wehling. Hannah is the sister of former MN runner-up Sydney Wehling who competed in the Miss division in both North Dakota & Minnesota this year, finishing fourth runner-up in ND.

The Congeniality winner was Isabella Nehk.

Lexie is 22 and was born & raised in Portland. She is currently studying towards a degree in environmental science. This was her first time competing in the pageant. She also won the Miss Photogenic award.

Mara was first runner-up in last year's pageant and is the first returning 1RU to win since Donna Schlieper in 2006. She is the first titleholder from Camden.

In the Miss pageant another newcomer Julia van Steenberghe placed first runner-up. Second runner-up went to Helena Higgins, who placed 4RU last year. Kaitlyn Beckwith, who was second runner-up last year & in Teen in 2017, placed third runner-up this year. Fourth runner-up was Sara Disselkamp, who was a semi-finalist in 2017 and third runner-up in 2016.

The top nine included past semi-finalist Elaine Cavalieri and newcomers Hamdia Ahmed, Katie Johnson and Congeniality winner Haylie Witham.

As with last year's pageant, the majority of contestants in the Teen top 11 were competing for the first time. First through fourth runners-up were, in order, Ashleigh Bolduc, Sophia Herdrich, Grace Morey, Meghan Cookson. Ashleigh was the only finalist other than Mara who had competed previous, she was a semi-finalist last year.

The semi-finalists were Emily Briggs, Teghan Halsey, Lexie McMahan, Annie Norman, Samantha Quinn and Julianna Rogers.

Sophia Herdrich was Miss Congeniality and Madelyn Brassard was Miss Photogenic.

Alyssa was Miss Kansas Teen USA 2013 - click the link for her Teen profile - and was a semi-finalist at Miss Teen USA 2013. She was third runner-up at Miss KS USA 2017 when she was just 18 and also third runner-up at Miss California USA last year. During her Teen reign she was one of the most active titleholders and made a huge number of appearances (there are heaps of photos on her Teen profile) so I can't wait to see what she does as Miss Kansas USA!

Hannah was a semi-finalist in last year's pageant and also won the Activewear award.

First runner-up in the Miss division was newcomer Alyson Acklin. Second runner-up went to two-time Teen finalist Faith Tyrell who avenged her non-finalist finish in 2017 (that one made no sense to me!). Third runner-up was 2018 semi-finalist Camila Sacco and a second newcomer Hayden Brax finished fourth runner-up and won the Swimsuit award.

The three semi-finalists were: Miss Kansas Teen USA 2009 Alexis Rewalt, who was competing in Miss for the sixth time and has finished as a SF five times now, with a fourth runner-up placement in 2016; 2017 fourth runner-up Cassie Lohmeyer; and two-time non-finalist Bridget McBrackney.

Miss Congeniality was Angelica Jacobs and Miss Photogenic was Camila Sacco. I am still waiting to find out the other category award winners.

In Teen the first runner-up was newcomer Sydney Mansaw. Lauren Savolt made the top five for the third time, finishing second runner-up this year to add to her fourth runner-up spot in 2018 and second runner-up placement in 2017. 2016 non-finalist Rachel Rigler was third runner-up and fourth runner-up was Photogenic winner Avery Roberge who was competing for the first time.

The top 12 included past semi-finalists Brooke Butler, Cyara Heredia and Kirsten Stokes and four first-time contestants: Vasuma Chaparala, Miranda Herzog, Isabella Line and Megan Mocabee (Miss Congeniality).

Congratulations to Miss Massachusetts USA 2019 Kelly O'Grady and Miss Massachusetts Teen USA 2019 Annie Lu! Click their names to view their titleholder profiles which have more photos.

Both titleholders are extremely accomplished, Kelly is a Harvard graduate and is currently attending the Harvard Business School to complete an MBA. Annie just started at Harvard and is there studying government. Their bios are on their profiles (click the links above) and are well worth reading, because there's more to their stories than just that snippet.

Kelly was third runner-up in last year's pageant, and is the seventh consecutive titleholder who had made the top five in either a Miss USA or Teen USA pageant. Annie competed in her home state of California last year (she is from the Bay Area) and made the top 20.

First runner-up for the second year in a row - one of three to befall that fate last weekend - was Ashley Baptista, who was also 2RU in 2016 and a semi-finalist in 2015. Second runner-up Chelsea Demby also repeated her placement from last year. Third runner-up was newcomer Sabrina Victor and fourth runner-up was past New Jersey Teen finalist Isabelle Varga, who was competing in her first Miss pageant.

The top 16 included previous New Hampshire and Rhode Island runners-up Nina Murray and Nicole Eacuello, past semi-finalists Fatima Armaghan, Meghan McInnis and Rachel Miller, past non-finalists Ashley Maiolatesi - from Louisiana last year - and Alexandria McBride - in Illinois in 2017, and newcomers Jaclyn Delmonico, Shumika Jean-Baptiste, Adriana Taylor and Shelby Thiem.

In the Teen pageant, the runners-up from first through fourth were Juliana Mazo, Noor Mohamed, Olivia Lindberg and Emily Pimentel. Olivia was a semi-finalist last year and the others were competing for the first time.

Miss Massachusetts Outstanding Teen 2017 Carly Fisher made the top 16 in her first attempt at Miss MA Teen USA; others in the top 16 were 2018 semi-finalist Kiersten Khoury, 2018 Washington teen semi-finalist Marianne Baptista, and newcomers Kennedy Campbell, Yara Fawaz, Jasmine Hachem, Jacey Hinton, Dalia Karim, Gianna Puopolo, Alexis Renaud and Eliza Rossi.

Congratulations to Miss Hawaii USA 2019 Lacie Choy and Miss Hawaii Teen USA 2019 Leimakamae Freitas! Click their names to view their titleholder profiles which have more photos.

Lacie, who competed as Miss Waikiki USA, was competing for the first time. She is the third newcomer to win in the last four years. She also won the evening gown and Miss Photogenic awards and tied for the swimsuit award.

Leimakamae was a semi-finalist last year. She is the second consecutive titleholder from the Big Island - which is impressive considering last year's winner Kylyn Rapoza was the first for 20 years! Both Leimakamae and Kylyn were Miss Hawaii Island Teen USA titleholders; the new prelims being held on all the islands in Hawaii are clearly paying off, at least in the Teen division, as Miss HI Teen USA 2016 Joahnnalee Ucol was I believe the first from Maui and the first from an island other than Oahu since 2004!

Former Miss Earth United States and two-time California runner-up Brittany Ann Payne placed first runner-up. I don't generally share opinions like this this lightly but from the comments on the Instagram live streams I was watching there was a clear undercurrent of "Hawaii winners should come from Hawaii" and sadly I believe this may have hurt her chances. Interesting fact... Hawaii hasn't crowned a blonde since 2001! Second runner-up was Stephanie Wang who was a semi-finalist last year. Third and fourth runners-up spots went to newcomers Halia Parish and Kayli Obrero respectively. Halia tied with Lacie for the swimsuit award, and she and Kayli were in a three-way tie with semi-finalist Steisha Sheather for the Interview award.

In addition to Steisha the rest of the top 10 were Sarah Manuel, a non-finalist in 2017, and first-time contestants, Nikita McElroy, Madoka Nagatake and Breea Yamat. Nikita won Miss Congeniality.

First runner-up in Teen was Lyric Medeiros, second runner-up went to Congeniality winner Kiilani Arruda, third runner-up was Photogenic winner Tylee Calicdan and fourth runner-up was Ashley Hill (SF in 2018).

Congratulations to Miss Georgia USA 2019 Katerina Rozmajzl and Miss Georgia Teen USA 2019 Isabella Bloedorn! Click their names to view their titleholder profiles which have more photos.

Katerina was the most experienced contestant to win this weekend. She was fourth runner-up last year, third runner-up in Teen in 2016, a semi-finalist in 2015 and a non-finalist in 2014. There are some great photos of her transformation from a Teen to a Miss contestant on her profile. Katerina is a model and has over 500k followers on her instagram!

Isabella (prounounced "Eesa-bella" with a soft S sound) was a semi-finalist in last year's pageant and again her transformation in just a year is absolutely stunning. Love seeing a girl who knows she wants the crown & goes all out for it :)

I am obsessed with both winners' gowns... anyone else?

First runner-up in Miss this year was Miss Alabama Teen USA 2013 Lorin Holcombe who was third runner-up in Alabama last year. Coincidentally she happened to be competing in Georgia at the exact same time this year's Alabama pageant was happening! Second runner-up went to Gianna Zitello who advanced one spot on her 2018 finish. Third runner-up was Olivia Wamack, who was a semi-finalist with Katerina at Miss GA Teen USA 2015 and also in 2014. Fourth runner-up Courtney Nichols was the only newcomer in the top five.

Among the semi-finalists this year were Miss District of Columbia 2016 Cierra Jackson, last year's first runner-up Safia Moussa, past Miss and Teen semi-finalists Autumn Adams, McCall Allen, Lena Hardy, Alix Troupe (also a Teen semi-finalist in 2015!), and 2018 non-finalist Shiobhan Fraser. Rachel Stacy finished out her pageant career with a semi-finalist placement in Georgia to add to her SF finish in Tennessee last year and Virginia in 2013, 2014 and 2017. She has competed eight times. The first-time contestants in the top sixteen were McKenna Fletcher, Erin Hughes and Daizha Johnson.

Paradise Rodriguez won Miss Congeniality and Haley Williams was Miss Photogenic.

In Teen, first runner-up went to Christell Foote, who coincidentally had the same local title as Lorin in the miss division, both represented Buckhead. Christell was competing in Georgia for the first time but was third runner-up at Miss Tennessee Teen USA 2018. Second runner-up was Meredith Proctor who was a 2018 semi-finalist. Newcomer Myla Hadley was third runner-up and fourth runner-up went to Sophia Sasso who was 3RU last year.

The top 16 included past semi-finalists Ansley Taubert and Kiley Love and newcomers Sydney Dorsey, Ansley Dykes, Addison Garman, Elizabeth Greenberg, Ashlin Meadows, Delaney Musgrave, Gabriela Norwood, Chandler Sapp and Rylee Wright.

Hannah-Fay Cordell won the Congeniality award and Photogenic went to Summer May.

Congratulations to Miss Delaware USA 2019 Jolisa Copeman and Miss Delaware Teen USA 2019 Myah Rosa-Scott! Click their names to view their titleholder profiles which have more photos.

Jolisa was a semi-finalist in 2017 - I have posted some of her competition photos in her profile and you might not recognise her! Love the transformation. She also received the rare honour of both winning the title and Miss Congeniality - one of two titleholders this weekend! This hasn't happened in Delaware since at least 2007.

Myah was second runner-up last year - there are photos from last year on her page as well. I believe they are the first African-American duo to win in Delaware.

This was the first year that former Maryland titleholders - and sisters! - Christie and Wendy Davis directed the pageant. Christie was Miss Maryland USA 2000 and Wendy was Miss Maryland USA 1994. I hope that next year they post their contestants on their website or Facebook ahead of the pageant, this year it took a contestant sending me photos of the programme book for us to figure out who was competing.

Coming within an inch of being the first to win the "quadruple crown" (state titles for Miss America's Outstanding Teen, Miss Teen USA, Miss America and Miss USA) was first runner-up Amanda Debus, who was Miss DE's OT 2008, Miss Delaware Teen USA 2011 and Miss Delaware 2016. Amanda was also third runner-up last year. Second runner-up, for the second year in a row, was Drew Sanclemente who was also third runner-up in 2017 and first runner-up in Teen in 2015. Third runner-up went to another former Miss Delaware Brooke Mitchell, and fourth runner-up was Lauren Haberstroh, the only MUO newcomer in the top five (however, she was also 4RU at Miss Delaware 2018!).

This year's semi-finalists included 2017 runners-up Kimberly Martin (also a runner-up in 2013 & 2016) and Sarah Timmons, past DE semi-finalist Autumn Keller, past California and Georgia semi-finalist Dia Davis. Dia and Kimberly were both competing in their 7th USA pageants.

(A previous version of this blog based on information I was given earlier stated that all the contestants re-competed as semi-finalists, I have since been corrected and this has been updated!)

In Teen, three of last year's top five made the top five again this year: Myah, first runner-up Emily Jer-Don (4th runner-up last year) and third runner-up Tiffany Gray (also 3rd runner-up last year). Emily also won Miss Congeniality for the second year in a row! Second runner-up was Gigi Gijanto and fourth runner-up was Jasmin Jackson, both newcomers. Emily was third runner-up at Miss Delaware's Outstanding Teen a few months ago and Gigi also competed in that pageant.

Only 8 contestants participated this year and all re-competed as semi-finalists.
