Miss Vermont USA & Teen USA 2017 will be held in Stowe this weekend, with prelims at 8pm on Saturday and finals at 2pm on Sunday. There are 14 more Miss contestants this year than last year - from 6 to 20. This is the highest number since 2013 and there has been a 50% increase in the number of contestants compared to the previous three years. Teen numbers are up one compared to last year.
Miss Vermont Teen USA 2014 Madison Cota has returned and will be the first former Vermont teen to compete at Miss Vermont USA since 2011 - the most recent three former VT Teens have all competed in other states: Sydney Perry (2008) won Miss NC USA 2012, Olivia Hubbard (2007) competed in New Hampshire and Brittany Kelemen (2009) in California in 2015. Only three Miss VT Teen USAs have ever competed at Miss USA: Sydney, Christy Beltrami (1987) and Jennifer Ripley (1999). (Click here to view the history of VT Teens competing in Miss)
Due to the small number of contestants there were only two runners-up in each division last year. In Miss, both are returning. 2016 first runner-up Karly Fereday was also a semi-finalist in 2015 while second runner-up Joanna Nagle was competing for the first time. Miss Vermont's Outstanding Teen 2010 Erin Connor, who was second runner-up at Miss Vermont Teen USA 2013 (Madison Cota was also competing that year), is competing in Miss for the first time.
Four contestants have competed elsewhere: Daniella Doolen in New Hampshire, Lexia Gillette in Massachusetts, Maia-Jean Allo in Arizona (she was a semi-finalist in the Teen pageant last year) and Alyssa Sopenasky at Miss FL Teen USA 2007.
In the Teen competition, the only returning contestant is 2016 and 2015 second runner-up Kelsey Golonka.
