Shelly is from the small town of Kemmerer, in the southwest of her state. She recently graduated from Kemmerer High School and is a freshman at Brigham Young University in Provo where she hopes to earn a degree in chemical engineering. In high school she was an active member of the National Honor Society, student director of drama club, member of the yearbook staff, captain, driver and mechanic of the robotics team, president of the band, chair on the senior trip committee and youth trek leader at her church, all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
