PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE OF MISS USA 2009 STATE TITLEHOLDERS
Not to dishearten any newcomers competing in upcoming state pageants, but half way through the 2009 state pageant season, one trend is very evident - this group of titleholders are some of the most experienced state winners recent years. Out of the 23 winners crowned so far, only five have not competed in previous Miss USA or Teen USA state pageants - in other words just over 78% of this years winners have competed before. This is in stark comparison to 2008, when only close to 65% of the winners had experience.
The number of previous Miss USA & Teen USA pageants that this years winners have competed in is also striking. Between them the contestants have competed in 42 previous state pageants (not including Miss Teen USA proper). This is an average of 1.8 state pageants across all 23 contestants (including those who had not competed before). Last years 51 contestants had competed in 61 previous pageants between them, for an average of 1.2 per contestant.
The number of former Miss Teen USA state titleholders crowned this year is also higher than last years average. So far four former Teens have been crowned, for an average of 1 former teen per 5.75 winners. Last year only 5 were crowned, for an average of 1 former teen per 10.2 winners. It does not look like this year will reach the heights of 2007, but it does appear on track to surpass the Teen numbers from 2005 & 2006 (six).
