A seventeen year old high school senior from Vassalboro Maine, Amanda is a role model in her community. In June of 2004 she founded, and is currently the president of the volunteer organization Angels in Your Community. Its mission is to inspire teens to “get up, get out, and get connected to their communities.”
Angels in Your Community has worked with the American Red Cross, the Waterville Humane Society, and the American Heart Association. Her organization has collected gowns from all over the country and donated over two hundred and fifty gowns to girls who may not have otherwise been able to attend their prom.
Amanda’s father has served over twenty years in the US Navy giving her the opportunity to travel the world. She has lived in places like California, Virginia, and Japan, a place whose unique culture she says only a person who lived there would really understand. She has also traveled to Hawaii and Guam and is eager to see more.
Amanda is captain of her varsity cheerleading team and spends much of her time choreographing dance routines. She has danced for fourteen years. Ballet is her passion and has had the honor of dancing with Andre Bossov of the Russian Ballet at Bossov Ballet Theater and Sensei Norri of the Japanese Royal Ballet. She currently dances with Stage Presence for Dancers, where she teaches the art of ballet to three-year-olds. She loves to travel with her family and spend time with her friends.
Amanda already takes college courses because she is eager to continue her education. She plans to enter college as sophomore rather then a freshmen this fall. She will major in broadcast journalism; her dream is to host a morning news program. As a writer, she keeps post-its and pens at arm’s reach at all times, “just in case.” Her best writing comes from day dreaming.
Amanda is open-minded and never afraid of new things and meeting new people. She is addicted to coffee, and loves to cook. She is at times clumsy, but always has a smile on her face. She gets lost in music and believes that love conquers all. The only thing she is afraid of is missed opportunity.
