When Olga Litvinenko was just three years old, her family fled their home in Kiev, Ukraine to escape the after-effects of the Chernobyl nuclear plant disaster. The United States offered a safer future for Olga and her two older brothers, and a place where Olga's father could continue to grow his import/export business. The United States was a place where the family could grow, prosper, and chase the “American dream” like the many immigrant families that came before them.
