SUSIE EVANS
MISS VIRGINIA USA 2020
26 | POQUOSON | 2ND RUNNER-UP 2019, MISS VIRGINIA TEEN USA 2011
Susie is a Virginia native, born and raised in the Hampton Roads area. Susie won Miss Virginia Teen USA 2011, which led her to Lindenwood University in Saint Charles, Missouri on a full tuition scholarship. Susie graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Cinema Arts and Broadcast Communications.
After graduating in 2015, Susie landed an international performing contract with Tokyo Disney Land that ultimately took her abroad for 26 months. Susie traveled to over 15 cities across Japan and to ten countries during and after the contract. Susie started looking for ways to use her digital cinema education to give back to the community. Live, learn, and pass it on! This is the idea behind her initiative Media That Matters. She set out to empower women through her media production and had the opportunity to display a photo series showcasing the natural beauty of women from around the world in the Scheidegger Center for the Arts. She also produced a short film called, Kara, to empower women who have lost their hair from chemotherapy, fundraised for a scholarship contest at her alma mater to award young women scholarships, and used a documentary style video to help find a kidney donor for a kidney disease patient in Sarasota, FL. Susie currently works as a Program Manager at a marketing agency in Williamsburg, Virginia where she plans and executes patient-education programs across the U.S. She works closely with advocacy groups and patients with rare diseases and she beleives that her work experience has shaped her greatly in the last year. When Susie isn’t at work she spends hours training in Brazilian Jiu Jistu and volunteering at Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. After returning to the U.S. from Japan, Susie made her debut to the Miss Virginia USA stage. She placed second runner-up and decided to use the next year working toward her goal of representing Virginia at Miss USA. In January 2020, Susie returned to compete for the title, she was awarded the congeniality award and was successful in making her dream of becoming Miss Virginia USA come true. Susie plans to spend her year promoting Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and her initiative Media That Matters to cultivate change in communities across Virginia. |
