CHESLIE'S CROWNING
Did you know?
- This is North Carolina's third title, exactly ten years since Kristen Dalton won their second in 2009. This is the second time they have placed in the top three one year then won the title the next (Ashley Puleo was 2RU in 2004 prior to Chelsea Cooley's win in 2005).
- Alejandra Gonzalez gave New Mexico their highest placement & only their second top five finish since 1985. NM has only placed five times since 1987.
- Oklahoma placed for the sixth time this decade, three of which have been top five finishes.
- Arkansas made the top five for the first time since Terri Utley won the title in 1982!
- Nevada is the most successful state for 2019 across both the Miss & Teen pageants, having made the top five in both. This is their 5th top five finish since 2012.
- Arkansas made the top 15 for the sixth time in 12 years - prior to Vanbros taking over in 2008 they hadn't placed since 1985.
- In addition to Nevada, Arkansas, Kansas, Maryland and Oklahoma also made the top 15 at both Miss USA & Teen USA.
- Florida placed in consecutive years for the first time since 2004-2005.
- Kansas made the top 15 for the first time since 2010 & only the second time since 2002.
- Maryland recorded their seventh placement in 10 years, making the 2010s their most successful decade ever. Pennsylvania also had their most successful decade, with four placements.
- Iowa made the cut for only the fifth time since 1960! Their two most recent placements were in 2014 & 2000.
- Of the seven former Teen titleholders who were competing this year, three made the top 15. Alyssa Klinzing was the only contestant to make the cut in both pageants.
- While I can't put a year on the last time this happened, I noticed the exceptionally rare occurence that none of the final group of contestants alphabetically (from South Carolina to Wyoming) made the cut. This group includes powerhouse states like SC, Tennessee and Texas so it is extremely unusual for none from of these 11 states to place.
