Miss Teen USA 1997 almanac
Miss Teen USA 1997 was held in South Padre Island, Texas. The pageant was hosted by J. Eddie Peck and new owner Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka was one of the colour commentators. Shelly Moore won Tennessee's first Miss Teen USA title. Florida's Cristen Duren won their second consecutive Photogenic title and went on to win Photogenic again at Miss USA nine years later - the first contestant to win this award at both pageants.
23 Teens from this year have gone on to compete in Miss state pageants, with eight winning their way to Miss USA - including Larissa Meek (MO), Alita Dawson (CT) and Cristen Duren (FL) who placed 4RU in 2001, 2002 and 2006 respectively. Miss MD Teen USA Brandi Burkhardt went on to win Miss NY 1999 and have a successful entertainment career; Che'vonne Burton also competed at Miss America.
