Maya currently lives in Yonkers, NY, where she was born and raised. As a child, Maya was involved in several extra-curricular activities including musical theater, dance, art-classes and even obtaining a black belt in karate. Yet, the activities she most enjoyed were her art-classes where she could freely explore her passion for fashion. As she grew older, Maya realized she could take her designer abilities one-step further by pursuing the business side of fashion. In college, Maya plans to pursue International Business and continue her higher-eduction by obtaining an MBA specializing in Fashion Merchandising.
Merging fashion into everything she does, Maya is an official volunteer for Dress for Success. This organization’s mission is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing support, professional attire and the skills needed to help them thrive in work and life. This enables Maya to help women feel confidently beautiful for their job interviews. Maya has also worked with other charitable organizations to collect clothing for teens in need. Maya is passionate about making everyone feel comfortable and confident in their wardrobe so they can present the best representation of themselves. Maya realizes the importance of making an impact. Her goals are to not only make a difference in her community and state, but also throughout the world. At the age of 12, she began to travel independently visiting Japan as part of an international student exchange program. Since then, she has traveled to over 30 countries. She wants to show the world that although we come from different backgrounds, we all have a lot more common than we may realize. |
