Miss Washington USA & Teen USA 2017 results recap

Congratulations to Miss Washington USA 2017 Alex Carlson-Helo and Miss Washington Teen USA 2017 Alyssa Williams!  Alex has made history as the first ever Miss Washington Teen USA to win the Miss Washington USA title!  Washington was the last state that had never crowned a former Teen (the second to last was Michigan, who crowned  Miss MI Teen USA 2009 Kristen Danyal in 2012).  Alex is also only the second 2012 Teen to win a Miss USA state title.  This is the first year since before 2000 that both of Washington's titleholders are blonde!

​In the Miss division, all four runners-up had competed previously.  First runner-up was Tatum Schroeder who competed with Alex at Miss WA Teen USA 2012 and was a semi-finalist - she had also been a semi-finalist & won the Congeniality award in 2011.  Second runner-up went to Gelly (Geraldine) Lirio who was a semi-finalist last year and fourth runner-up in 2015.  Third runner-up was Chael Stenchever, who was also 3RU last year.  Eight-time contestant Evelyn Clark was fourth runner-up - in all those years in Washington Teen & Miss and in Oregon, she has only missed the top five twice!  

Among the remaining 11 semi-finalists was Miss New Hampshire Teen USA 2010 Morgan Lucas, past Idaho runner-up Christine Serb, previous NC & WA semi-finalists Brenna Aguilar and Gen Saechao and four contestants who had previously been non-finalists and who made the cut for the first time: Jocelyn Cowan, Riley Elliott, Savannah Morton and Courtney Prather.  There were only three newcomers in the entire top sixteen: Whitney Mitchell, Grace Olson, and Sarah Smith.

In the Teen pageant Alyssa's first runner-up Katherine Hansen was also competing for the first time.  Second runner-up Kathleen Crosby was a semi-finalist last year, third runner-up Noelle Tapang was the first runner-up in 2016 and fourth runner-up in 2015 and fourth runner-up went to Sylvia Coulson for the second year in a row. 2016 third runner-up Taylor Mann and past semi-finalists Kasey Hobson, Carley Surina and Jesi Williams all made the top 16.
