Miss Maryland USA and Miss Maryland Teen USA 2019 contestant commentary

Update!  Congratulations to Miss Maryland USA 2019 Mariela Pepin and Miss Maryland Teen USA 2019 Amalia Sanches!

Miss Maryland USA and Miss Maryland Teen USA 2019 will be crowned Sunday afternoon, with the final competition starting at 4pm.  Miss contestants are posted here and Teen is posted here.  As with New Hampshire there is sadly no webcast.  

The Miss division has 56 contestants which is down 17 contestants on last year but more or less the same as 2010 and 2016.  The Teen pageant has consolidated the gains made last year with 70 contestants and is one of only a few states that have gained this year compared to the previous three.  

The new winners will have big shoes to fill as the outgoing titleholders Brittinay Nicolette and Caleigh Shade became the first Maryland duo in five years to place in both pageants.

Given the large number of contestants there are really very few returnees, especially in Teen but to a lessor extent in the Miss division.  Miss Maryland Teen USA 2014 and Miss MD USA 2018 second runner-up Mariela Pepin is competing again and is vying to be the first 2014 Teen crowned this year.  There have been a lot of former Teens competing this year but only two have been crowned so far!    She is the only one of last year's top five who have returned, but 2017 third runner-up (& 2018 semi-finalist) Antonia Gore is competing again and two-time Miss VT USA runner-up Joanna Nagle is competing in Maryland for the first time.  2015 MD Teen runner-up Margo Huffman, 2015 DC Teen runner-up Kennedy Taylor and Miss NY Teen USA 2014 & 2015 runner-up Christiana DiNardo are competing in their first Miss pageants.  Kennedy was also Miss MD's Outstanding Teen 2012.

Returning semi-finalists are Jordyn Cristaudo (2017), Agatha Dulce (Teen 2017 & 2018) and Amber Smith (Teen 2014 & 2015).

As I mentioned above, there are very few returning Teen semi-finalists, especially when you take into account there being 70 contestants!  2018 first runner-up Megan Goins (also a semi-finalist in 2016 & 2017) and 2018 second runner-up Jaclyn Davis are both competing again, as are semi-finalists Isabella Capuano and Savannah Rumsey.

Unfortunately I don't have the list of 2018 contestants to see if any of last year's non-finalists are competing to add to the list below.
