Until today not a single returning first runner-up had won a Miss title... but Miss WV USA 2016 Nichole Greene kicked us off in West Virginia with a very successful day for three 2015 1RUs! This was Nicole's second run at the title, and she is the first titleholder from Charleston since 1994! (according to my records - please do let me know if I've missed someone. The new Miss West Virginia Teen USA 2016 Cassy Trickett also won on her second try; she was a semi-finalist last year. Does anyone else think Nichole bears a more than striking resemblance to Miss PA USA 2014 Valerie Gatto?

Sadly I've heard that the Miss competition dropped from ten to eight contestants just before the start of pageant weekend. Four of the top five had previously made the top five in Miss or Teen. First runner-up Lauren Roush was a second runner-up at Miss WV Teen USA 2013 and a semi-finalist the following year. Second runner-up was Marlisa Lake, who was also 2RU last year. Tori Rohr, third runner-up at Miss WV Teen USA 2011 was third runner-up this year. Fourth runner-up went to the only newcomer in the top five, Allie Cole.
In Teen, the entire top five had competed previously. Miss WV's Outstanding Teen 2011 Isabel Raese, third runner-up last year, placed first runner-up. Second runner-up was Sarah Miranda, who repeated her placement from last year just like her Miss counterpart. 2014 non-finalist Kathryn Scarbro placed third runner-up and four-time contestantant Morgan Smith made the top five or the first time, in fourth runner-up spot.
